Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)
He says: Let's just get to the point. The movie could be classified as an action-packed adventure/drama/fantasy; however, let's go to the Nth degree, that this could also be considered a chick flick and a horror movie - and with that said, this would be a great movie to take a date to. The movie had everything that you can possibly look for in a film, including visually stunning cinematography. There was a strong male role from "Thor" (Chris Hemsworth), who I felt stole every scene. The main character is a female (Kristen Stewart from "Twilight") so it could be classified as a chick flick; she was nice to look at, but her performance was a little weak.
This is one of those films where the score is immaculate; it does not override the dialogue, ever; and I totally appreciate a film where you can understand the dialogue without it being drowned out by the soundtrack. And the score seemed to use just enough notes in every scene to get its point across without being too overbearing, for the scene to be enjoyed to the max; as a DJ, I felt it was remarkably well executed.
This movie is a definite two thumbs up in all categories; therefore I will give it a score of 91.5%.
She says: Figrock, you were way too generous with that rating. You were definitely thinking with the wrong head. (And Stewart isn't even that hot!! Did you even notice the gorgeous Charlize Theron?!)
The movie was literally spoiled by the casting of the limp Kristen Stewart. Her performance - just like in the "Twilight" series - was lackluster, dull, dead. She should star in a zombie film ... as a zombie. Then she'd finally find her place.
Aside from the horrible performance by the (!) main character, the rest of the film really did go above and beyond. Chris Hemsworth as the huntsman was sexy and convincing; flawed but redeemable. And the aforementioned Theron, gripping in everything she does, was stunning as the evil queen. (Except when her evil magic faded, leaving her old and withered - great effects!) There were a few lines in her dialogue that seemed forced - particularly the loud ones. "You will do this for me, huntsman!!" was terrible.
Not as awful as Stewart's - shudder - pep talk toward the end of the film. In real life, she wouldn't have convinced ANYONE with that ridiculous speech.
The music was fantastic, the scenery magnificent, the pacing excellent, and the dwarves absolutely delightful (Ray Winstone! love!)
Overall, I'm only giving it one thumb up, and a rating of 72%.
